What is Therapy?
There are many different types of therapy, but at the core of most talking or counselling therapies is the creation of a relationship between you and your therapist that allows you to explore what may be troubling you or causing you emotional pain and anxiety and to find possible resolutions.
How many sessions will I need?
This really depends on what it is that has brought you to therapy in the first place, what resources and support you have outside of therapy and what you feel you need from your sessions. We will always aim for you to only having as many sessions as you need and your therapist will review sessions regularly, always with a view for you to only have the amount of sessions that are needed.
What will we talk about?
Your therapist will complete an assessment with you on your first appointment where you will have a chance to tell them what has brought you to therapy and what it is you would like to achieve from your sessions. Your therapy sessions are all about what you would like to talk about. You are in control of what you bring to each session.
How long till I start feeling better?
Therapy can be a difficult process and often you will feel worse before you start to feel better. This is very normal as you are starting to unpack and expose feelings and emotions that can be painful. Each person will find their way to feeling better in their own time and will depend on many other factors.
What is Trauma?
Trauma is simply when an unexpected event in your life, which can be life threatening, occurs and has a significant impact on how you view yourself.
What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder/Syndrome (PTSD/PTSS)?
This is a diagnosis given to those who suffer with significant symptoms as a result of either a series of or single event trauma. These symptoms are varied and include depression, flashbacks, nightmares and many others.
